Bobby Fischer's Legacy?

Have you seen this story? Do you think it’s for real? As much as I wish it were true, I have my doubts. It would be really cool to see new Fischer games if he did indeed play online since his “retirement”, especially if he played against some of the current elite GM's. And it would definitely make for some juicy news if all that correspondence was real. I just don’t buy it though.

The last email they show says it was “Sent: Sunday, 09 December 2008 04:08”. Well, obviously this date was doctored as I doubt Bobby traveled to the future to send it. Why shouldn’t everything else be doctored as well? It just seems too good to be true, I have to believe this is highly bogus. But it would make one heck of a story…

***Happy April's Fools day everybody!***

Fischer and Korchnoi were e-mailing in 1978? Clearly an April's Fool hoax. Funny though, how they made Bobby responsible for all of chess history. "Complain about the yogurt!", "Play 1… P-QR3!"

Looks like Mr. anonymous beat me to it. I believe Chessbase has floated April Fool's jokes before.

I was just about to post something on this too. But you beat me to it. It would be very cool if he were responsible for the Nf7 sac during Corus but I don't think it's possible.

On the last email it says 2007, maybe they corrected it?

Probably just April Foolery

Kevin: heh, that's funny. They did change the date to 2007, it was 2008 when I read the article this morning. Maybe they read my post :)

This is a pretty cool joke, they put a lot of thought into it.
