Weekend Tournament

I played in another small tournament this weekend. I felt like I played pretty shitty, I wasn't happy with the quality of most of my games. I still managed to get 2.5/4 though so the result wasn't too bad. My main problem this weekend was impatience. I just didn't feel like taking time on my moves... Time control was G/45, but in most games I was 10-15 moves into the game after 10 minutes. Anybody have any suggestions as to how to train against impatience? :)

Will try to post a game later.

Train against impatience? Maybe yoga or some other relaxing therapeutic thing?

Nothing that I know of for impatience, maybe more disappointing outings will teach you a thing or two :D

But hey 2.5/4.0 isn't a bad result.

Actually, that sounds about right. It was a revelation to me when I read in the book Chess Master at Any Age the suggestion that at sudden death time controls almost everyone plays too slowly. Since many games are played out to mate, you should plan on some games lasting 60-90 moves. I remember several long-ago games at G/30 where I took almost all the time for the first 25 or so moves, was a piece or even a whole rook up...and lost.

Impatience: It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Ahh, yes, I remember being a rook down and losing on time three moves after a really fun king-queen fork.
