Ivanchuk On Fire

Vassily Ivanchuk is on fire at the MTel Masters in Bulgaria. He has won all five of his games, which is a pretty crazy feat at a category 20 tournament. With five out of five points, his performance rating is a whopping 3537. Three thousand and friggin five hundred thirty-seven! That's just absolutely insane.

Wow! He is having an incredible tournament. I wonder how much the unusual draw rules impact his result?

Agreed, pre arranged draws suck ass!

Now Topalov is only one point behind with three rounds to go, if he catches Chucky I will be thoroughly impressed, Topalov has a history of winning the later rounds of a tournament.

As far as draw rules, I don't think it usually results from a pre-arranged draw I think both players just do not want to take risks and agree to stop the game. I don't know that they should be forced to take unnecessary risks as there are still exciting games at all the top level tournaments. Short draws are not exciting, but I don't think this makes them some kind of evil that must be eradicated.

Topalov keeps closing in, now he's only a half point behind, two rounds to go. I hope Ivanchuk can pull the win off.

Draws are not "evil", but the high percentage of them is a bit annoying. While some drawn games are very exciting, many are just very boring, especially if they are agreed after 10 moves.
