Chess Orgy

Has it really been a week since my last post? Damn… I’ve been very busy with work and life in general this week so posting has obviously been light. On top of that, I’ve been suffering from total chess information overload :) I am playing around with the gazillion Chessbase features, trying to familiarize myself with everything… the package had so friggin much stuff in it, it’s ridiculous. Apart from the complex software itself, there’s the Mega Database with tons of extensively annotated games. Then there’s the Correspondence Database that offers really cool off-beat lines, crazy gambits and all sorts of other good stuff you wouldn’t really see in OTB games, so it’s fun browsing through some of those half million games. Then there were six issues of Chessbase magazine that have shitloads of games, analysis, training exercises, multimedia, etc…. And of course the 9 DVD’s with Nalimov endgame tablebases, with which I’m having some issues right now. After installing them (which took forever), Fritz doesn’t want to start anymore because it can’t find some dll file it needs. I’m trying to figure out what’s going on but haven’t been able to fix it yet. Hopefully that’ll change soon, because I can’t wait to do some extensive endgame studies with it.

Ok enough rambling for now. I’ll be on a business trip for the next two days but might be playing in a mini club tournament on Saturday if I get home on time. I’ll be sure to post about it.

Of all the nice features, the most impressive to me is the opening report. From any opening position go up to tools>opening report and it will collect all the games in mega database from this position and present them in an easy to read format summarizing all the statistics and main players. It's definitely my favorite.

I am just starting to realize how powerful a tool the opening report is - it definitely rocks. Right now I'm going through a bunch of archived chesscafe articles - lots of good tips on getting the most out of the software.

Hey, I need to get an account. Anyway, I'm the guy who was having problem getting personal chess trainer. Still having problems. The buy now button finally seemed to work and I put in my information and I got an order confirmation number with a promise that I'd hear from them in one business day. That was 4 days ago. Now I notice at their site that they've apparantly upgraded the software and changed its name to chessimo. strange. Still no e-mail from customer service letting me know what is going on. I sent an e-mail two days ago asking them to expedite the completion of my order and I've heard nothing. Sigh. Right now I've got Chess Tactics for Beginners and Advanced Chess School. Anyway, thought you'd like to hear about this chessimo weirdness.

Sorry to hear about your issues, that really sucks. Like I said, I had no problems a few months back. Not sure why they'd change the name to chessimo, I think they have a bit of brand equity in the term "Personal Chess Trainer". But that's just me.

Hope your problem gets sorted out.
